My Small Group Adventure in Kuala Lumpur & Borneo
There are some trips that get under your skin in the best possible way. My recent small group adventure to Kuala Lumpur and Borneo with Intrepid was one of those journeys: full of wildlife and wow‑moments, and a powerful reminder of why I love helping my clients explore this part of the world.
I have just come back from an incredible small‑group adventure through Kuala Lumpur and Borneo with Intrepid, and it reminded me exactly why I love this part of the world.
We started in Kuala Lumpur, where temples, markets and gleaming towers sit side by side. Arriving a little early meant time to wander Chinatown’s lantern‑lit streets, sample street‑food favourites and get that “I’ve really arrived” feeling before joining the group. From there, we flew to Borneo, home to some of the oldest rainforest on earth. Our journey combined simple jungle lodges, river safaris and time in key wildlife areas. Gliding along the river at dawn and dusk was a real highlight: proboscis monkeys in the trees, hornbills overhead and the constant soundtrack of the jungle all around us.
One of the most moving days was visiting an orangutan rehabilitation centre, watching these incredible animals in a semi‑wild setting and learning more about the conservation work taking place. It is exactly the sort of responsible, wildlife‑friendly experience I look for when I am recommending trips for my clients. Travelling with Intrepid meant: A small, friendly group and a fantastic local leader. A mix of comfortable hotels and more rustic jungle stays, Authentic food, local markets and community experiences woven into the trip . A real focus on travelling responsibly and supporting local people. This style of trip is perfect for couples, families, solo travellers or groups of friends who love nature, do not mind early starts and want meaningful experiences rather than high‑gloss luxury.
If you are curious about Borneo, orangutans and rainforest adventures, I would love to share more about my own experience and help you decide if this kind of small‑group tour is right for you. Together we can tailor the route, comfort level and any pre‑ or post‑tour stays to suit you. Get in touch and let us start planning your own wild escape.
