Family Fun on the Adriatic: Our Croatia Adventure
A family adventure filled with sunshine, swimming, and spectacular scenery
There's something magical about a family holiday - the excitement of discovering somewhere new, slowing down from the pace of everyday life, and creating memories that will be talked about for years to come. This year, that place was Croatia. With it's crystal-clear Adriatic waters, charming old towns, delicious local cuisine, and endless sunshine, Croatia proved to be the perfect destination for our family. From relaxing on beautiful beaches to wandering through historic streets and enjoying unforgettable boat trips, everyday brought a new experience. In this blog, I'll share the highlights of our trip, a few practical tips, and the moments that made our Croatian holiday so special. Whether you're planning your own family getaway or simply dreaming of your next escape, i hope our journey inspires you.
Croatia’s Istrian Coast
The Istrian Coast isn’t somewhere that has ever really been on my travel radar, and honestly, I can’t tell you why. But having the experience of the crystal-clear waters of Rovinj on Croatia’s stunning coastline, I can confidently say this won’t be our last visit.

We chose to fly from East Midlands Airport, mainly because of its leisurely afternoon departure. I hadn’t flown from there for years, and it made for a refreshing change from the current chaos surrounding Birmingham Airport while the renovation works continue. It was smaller, calmer and the perfect start to a family holiday.
After an on-time flight and a smooth two-hour journey, we landed at Pula Airport—which somehow manages to be even smaller than East Midlands! We did have to queue for the new EES entry requirements, but despite some of the horror stories reported in the UK press, the process was straightforward and nowhere near as dramatic as we’d anticipated.
From the airport, it was just a 45-minute transfer to our hotel. Long enough for Margot to squeeze in a little power nap, but not so long that she woke up grumpy. In fact, any lingering tiredness disappeared the moment we stepped into reception and she spotted an indoor climbing gym!

Our room was a standard family room with a pull-out bed tucked neatly underneath the main bed. It was ideal for Margot. Although she’s been sleeping in a “big bed” at home for quite some time, she’s not quite used to a full-sized single bed, so this gave us complete peace of mind that there was no chance of her rolling out during the night.
One thoughtful touch that immediately stood out was the inclusion of a toddler toilet seat and step in the bathroom as standard. It might seem like a small detail, but it made a huge difference. Margot is fiercely independent these days, and having everything set up for little guests meant she could carry on doing things for herself without needing our help.
Dinner was our first real glimpse into what this hotel was all about.
The buffet wasn’t just family friendly—it was clearly designed with children in mind. Highchairs and booster seats were everywhere, child-sized plates, cups and cutlery were readily available, and there were little steps so children could safely help themselves to drinks. There was even a lower buffet counter, making it easy for little ones to choose their own meals.
It genuinely felt like the restaurant belonged to the children… and us adults were simply allowed to accompany them! 😂
After dinner, we wandered down to the pebble beach, just a few seconds’ walk from the hotel grounds. This quickly became our evening ritual throughout the week. We’d watch the sun slowly set over the Adriatic, listen to the gentle waves and count the boats sailing past. It was the perfect way to end each day.
On the walk back to our room, Margot was completely spoilt for choice. Slides, swings, climbing frames—you name it, the hotel had it. Her confidence amazed us all, happily climbing to the highest platforms without a second thought. Unlike her poor mummy… and daddy, who were watching nervously from below!
With full tummies, salty sea air in our lungs and one very happy little explorer, it was finally time to rest our heads. We had six more days to discover everything Croatia’s beautiful Istrian Coast had to offer.
After just one evening, one thing was already obvious: this
hotel wasn’t simply family friendly—it was child focused. And there is a huge
difference.
This hotel has officially set the benchmark for all future trips!
Do not hesitate to try Croatia, it was truly wonderful.
